Being a Portland native, I have lived in quite a few different areas of the city. Including but not limited to Downtown, Sellwood, Irvington, the Williams Corridor (before it got all trendy and overdeveloped), and currently our secret neighborhood we call “The Mad South” in NE Portland. My favorite place I ever lived was the first apartment Piet and I had together in the Kerns neighborhood. The reasons for this are two fold. First, this part of town is so fun to live in. Its very walkable, with a nice mix of industrial, commercial and residential all wrapped up in one small footprint. There is just enough accessibility, without being overwhelmed with options. Here are a few pics I took on my short walk through my old stomping grounds.
The second reason is that the apartment we lived in called Parkrose, is an impeccably maintained set of buildings on one square block of land that is tucked away and mostly unknown. The buildings were built in the 1940’s as housing for returning soldiers. The gardens and courtyard are maintained weekly and it feels like you are on the campus of an ivy league school rather than an apartment complex. If you ever need housing, I highly recommend checking out Parkview. Although I am fairly certain their rent prices have gone up considerably since we lived there. It was foggy when I went to visit, so my photos are a little spooky looking.
I miss this place <3
