I’m so pleased to share these photos with you. I am grateful to have met and befriended the talented and lovely Simona Graszl. Fellow expat hailing from Budapest (no wonder she’s so cool…check out my birthday trip there earlier this year). I honestly thought I might skip the maternity shoot – which sounds so unlike me because I love documenting our life through photographs. But I was feeling like a whale and my belly wasn’t making the cute shape everyone else’s seems to make. Sounds insane right? I also kind of hated the idea of all the stereotypical pregnancy photos out there. But when she suggested a casual outdoor fall shoot, I knew it would be perfect!
The fall setting reminds me of this season in my hometown, Portland, Oregon. While nothing tops the vibrant colors Portland has to offer this time of year, I think we picked a pretty nice location for our shoot here in Leiden. Piet picked up a car and we drove to Polderpark Cronesteyn.
If you can imagine I wore that purple sparkly dress to Piet’s work holiday party a few years back at Cozy. Glad I hung onto it! I makes for the perfect festive maternity top now! In fact, I have hardly bought any maternity clothing. Although I couldn’t live without my H&M belly leggings, and my belly support band purchased at Prenatal. It’s been about a month since these photos…and I can really not believe I still have a month to go. You can’t imagine your body will stretch so much. I will have the marks to prove it! Cue the BioOil.
I love the series with our beloved Icelandic wool blanket. Such a brilliant idea from Simona. Piet and I like to bring home an item from every place we travel. We’ve added to our collection of ceramic mugs via trips to Cornwall and Prague, handmade toys (always for the future baby) from Mexico and Budapest, and wool blankets from Iceland and England. The inclusion of this blanket in the shoot represents our many adventures together that have strengthened our bond as a couple.
Speaking of bonding…we’ve also enjoyed many bowls of fries and dinners out together over the past eight years. Yes….we’ve been married eight years already! Wow. We both definitely feel ready to grow our family by one. We’ve always wanted a child, and while it took longer than anticipated, we feel like the timing is right for now. Neither of us feel scared that we aren’t ready or that perhaps it’s too early or too late. It’s just right. And I am quite certain that as soon as Piet sees his baby girl, he will forever be hers and his love for her will be deep and super sweet & sappy. As for me…ok, I am sure I will like her too ;P
